Vocabulary 6 Periodic Table It is a chart
Vocabulary #6
Periodic Table It is a chart of the elements arranged in rows and columns according to their physical and chemical properties.
Group It is a column on the periodic table.
Period This is a row on the periodic table
*Alkali Metal Elements in group 1 which include Lithium (Li), Sodium (Na), Potassium (K), Rubidium, Cesium, and Francium (Fr).
Alkaline Earth Metals The elements in group 2 on the periodic table react quickly with other elements. Examples include Magnesium (Ma) and Calcium (Ca).
Transition Metals The elements in group 3 -12 include a wide array of elements such as Iron (Ferrous) (Fe), Titanium (Ti), and Gold (Au).
Metal/Nonmetal Metal: an element generally shiny, is a good conductor, and is malleable. Nonmetal: Elements that have no metallic properties.
Halogens Elements in group 17 that react readily with other elements and can form a salt when combined with a metal.
Noble Gases Elements in group 18 are very stable and generally not reactive (Helium (He), Krypton (Kr), Neon (Ne)).
Metalloids An element that has both physical and chemical properties of both metals and nonmetals.
Alkali Metal Potassium - the alloy of potassium with sodium (Na. K) is used as a heat-transfer medium in nuclear reactors. The alloy is liquid at ambient temperature and is a good reducing agent in the chemistry laboratory
