Biography : Vlaho Bukovac , born as Biagio Faggioni, in the town of Cavtat, Croatia, on July 5, 1855, was a painterof figuresandportraitsin oil. Bukovakspent his youth away from home and family. At just 11 yearsold, he wentto Frano, New York, with his uncle. Shortlyafter his arrival, his uncleunexpectedlydiedandhis auntsent him to a reformatoryto youth, and he returnedto Cavtat onlyfouryearslater. He went to Paris in 1877, where he receivedhis artistic training at the “École des Beaux Arts”, studyingwiththe painter. Cabanel, a portraitstylish andorientalist.
