What is Visible Human Project? �The Visible Human Project is an effort to create a detailed data set of cross-sectional photographs of the human body, in order to help anatomy visualization applications.
What years were the Visible Human Project possible? �Began in the 1950’s. �Slowly gained popularity in 1970. �It has still had a constant growth in popularity continuing into 2014.
Who played a major part in Visible Human Project? �Michael J. Ackerman runs the program through the U. S. National Library of Medicine. �Joseph Paul Jernigan, a 38 year old murderer from Texas was executed by lethal injection on August 5 th, 1993. He agreed to donate his body to science, though he didn’t know what he was donating his body to. �The other body they used was an unknown 59 year old female.
What possible rewards are there to the field? �By the studying the data set, researchers at Columbia University found several errors in anatomy textbooks, related to the shape of a muscle in the pelvic region and the location of the urinary bladder and prostate. �It’s necessary to build 3 -D virtual tour of the human body.
What are the risks/downsides? �There could have been something physically wrong with one of the two bodies they used. �The scientist could have read the data wrong.
