History The Virtual Reality Center was established in the 1990 s and was originally named the owa Center for Emerging Manufacturing Technology, otherwise known as the CEM (VRAC Review, 2012). t was changed to the VRAC n 1992 when they were granted their first patent for a three-year project focused trictly on virtual prototyping research (Fakespace Systems, 2006). Mission The VRAC’s ultimate mission is to “provide unique learning opportunities to Iowa State’s undergraduate and graduate students, facilitate the world, and foster technology and economic development in support of ISU’s strategic stakeholders” (VRAC Review, 2012). Goal One of the VRAC’s goals is to become one of the world’s leading providers of virtual reality software and to process impressive credibility. Partnering and being recognized with and elite company in the virtual reality business are also important for VRAC to remain one of the best virtual reality facilities.
