DOs S When speaking, writing or publishing something online, be mindful of yourself and others around you. S Treat others as you would like to be treated: S Be patient S Ask questions S Discuss rather than argue S Be yourself, but be open to others S Listening is one of the best tools to use to get your own point across S You are talking to a person, not a robot

DOs S Understand privacy settings: S Just because you checked them a couple months ago doesn’t mean Facebook didn’t also just make an update S Make it a habit to do a monthly social media “check-up” to see what has changed and how you’re online presence is evolving S Understand the law S Be mindful of where you are getting your information and how you choose to use that information. Plagiarism, copyright infringement and foul words or language will land you in trouble

DON’Ts S Use “me” or “I” unless you’re sending emails, memos and business letters. S Say too much. Be concise and write clearly. Get to the point early and do not ramble. S Write in capital letters. This, in the digital world, means SHOUTING! S Send files that are too large. Convert them to PDF or other more viable formats. S Use bad grammar. Proofread anything you’re thinking about publishing. Bad grammar can, and will, hurt your credibility.
