Welcome to First Grade! Families, We are so excited to begin the 2020 -2021 school year! This year will be about flexibility for everyone. Our goal is to make this year successful for your child while keeping them safe. As you know, the year will begin with online learning via Google classroom, which requires parent participation from you. We know this can be difficult, so if there is anything we can do to help please feel free to contact us. We will get through this together. . . Your child has the privilege of working with both of us throughout the school year! ● Monday & Tuesday-Mrs. Raphael ● Wednesday-Alternating ● Thursday & Friday-Mrs. Folmsbee ● *email-The teacher present will answer emails. There will be at least 1. 5 hours of LIVE class and at least 1 hour of RECORDED class. There will be assignments that will be graded. Contact us if you need help or clarification. Although this isn’t the way anyone wanted to start the year, we can do it! Please know that we are trying our best, and we know that you and your child are, as well!

Please make sure you participate or you will be called by the office. ● LIVE meetings will be recorded and put on Google Classroom. LIVE you will be able to participate and ask questions. ● LIVE meetings may not be the entire time. . . you may be given time to work/ask questions. ● You will access everything through Google Classroom. ● There will be assignments that will be graded and that have a specific due date.
Virtual Class ● Teachers will be delivering a supply bag to your home on either Monday, August 3 rd or Tuesday, August 4 th between 9 am - 11 am. We hope we can meet everyone, but can leave the materials on your doorstep if needed. ● We highly suggest that you have a quiet area set up for virtual class. Have the items that we drop off available for use during class live time. ● Please have a pencil box/case with items that your child may need during class instruction. ● Suggestion items: Pencils, erasers, scissors, glue stick, crayons, dry erase markers, old sock or something to erase dry erase marker, sandwich bag of small items (20) to count (example, pennies, macaroni noodles, small rocks) ● Lessons will not be allowed to be downloaded even though recorded. Please do not take pictures or videos of lessons, as it infringes on FERPA and HIPAA laws. Just as when volunteering, we are asking you refrain from talking about a child other than your own. ● We will get through this together. . . !
Virtual Learning Rules We will review these with students daily during virtual learning. Thank you for your help in having your child participate in online learning following the below guidelines: 1. Be on Time: Log on a few minutes before each class is about to start. 2. Be Prepared: Be in a quiet place and come with your classroom supplies! 3. Mute Yourself: Turn off your microphone when your teacher or another student is talking. 4. Presentation: Wear appropriate school attire. Make sure you are in view of the camera. 5. Communication: Speak clearly and raise your hand to speak. 6. Be Respectful: Use kind words . No toys, pets, or other distractions.
Grading Guidelines ● We will be taking two grades per week in reading, writing, math, and ● speaking/listening. We will be taking one grade per week in science or social studies. IMPORTANT: ● Any papers that will be graded will come home on YELLOW paper ! ● If a paper is on yellow and is being graded, please send us a picture/scan a copy to us by the end of the day it is assigned. ○ Example: We are working on a reading paper on Tuesday. By Tuesday evening, please send us a picture or scan a copy of the assignment to us. ○ Please send the assignment to both teachers .

Thinking Maps Thinking maps are visual teaching tools that foster and encourage lifelong learning. They provide students with the skills to be successful thinkers, problem solvers, and decision makers. These maps will be taught in conjunction with the writing program Write from the Beginning across all grade levels.
