Proposal Basics Mission: A clear articulation of what your project will do; should be included as part of your project abstract Goals: Broad statements that describe the overarching or longrange purpose(s) of a project; are not usually measureable; used to guide/frame outcomes; will most likely be articulated within your project abstract Outcomes: Specific, measurable statements that describe what you expect your project to do or accomplish OR what you expect students will know or do as a result of your project Measures: Data/evidence collected analyzed to determine to what extent the outcomes were met

Key Terms in Proposal within the VETI Context Another way… Mission and Goals: What

Key Terms in Proposal within the VETI Context Another way… Mission and Goals: What do you hope to accomplish with your VETI project? Outcomes: What measurable thing(s) do you expect to do? OR What measurable thing(s) do you expect your students to do? Measures/Evidence: How will you know you did what you set out to do? How will you know students can do what you expected them to be able to do…and perhaps, how well? ? Begin with the end in mind.

Examples within the VETI Context Accessible Technology Blackboard Ally Pilot: Increase Accessibility of Course

Examples within the VETI Context Accessible Technology Blackboard Ally Pilot: Increase Accessibility of Course Content in LMS Mission: Accessible Technology will run a one year pilot of the Ally tool implementation in the Blackboard LMS. 21 courses in the MPA program will participate and undergo subsequent evaluation and remediation of course content. The Ally tool will provide information to faculty regarding the accessibility of their course content. Ally will also allow students to instantly access course content via various alternate accessible formats automatically. Goals: It is anticipated that this pilot will significantly improve the accessibility of course materials posted online in the MPA program across all 21 courses in the Blackboard LMS. Additionally, the same effect will be realized when scaled to the entire campus. Accessible Technology will assist faculty in creating, remediating, and/or replacing inaccessible instructional materials.

Examples within the VETI Context Accessible Technology Blackboard Ally Pilot: Increase Accessibility of Course Content in LMS Outcome 1: Increased awareness of the importance of accessible instructional materials by MPA faculty Outcome 2: Improved access to instructional materials online for students Measure(s)/Evidence: Outcome 1: Increase in number of MPA faculty seeking course remediation services (log or count) Outcome 2: Instant availability for students to course materials in alternate formats (download count), improved satisfaction (survey)

VETI Assessment Plan How-To • …until you get it right. • Does your outcome accurately reflect the end you have in mind? • Does your outcome utilize verbs that clearly articulate the expected action? • Is it specific? • Is it observable or measurable? • Identify possible assessment measures/pieces of evidence and select those that best align with your outcome(s). • What do you want to know? What will indicate to you that your intended outcome was (or wasn’t) met and how well? • Let your outcome(s) be your guide. • Be sure your measure is measuring what you intend it to measure. • Make sure your measure is manageable given time and personnel resources.
