Can/Could • Use can/could with a base verb to express ability now or in the past. – I can rollerskate with my eyes closed! – She couldn’t come to class yesterday. – She can’t drive a truck, but she can rive a motorcycle. – Can we have a party after the final exam? – Could he swim we he was a little boy?

Other Verbs • Simple Present – for habit, facts – He drives a car every Monday to work. – The other students ride the bus on Wednesday. – The sun doesn’t rise in the west. – The moon doesn’t look pretty tonight. • Simple Past – He drove a car all last week. – Many people didn’t understand the directions.

Questions Other Verbs • Use Do/Does for Present – for habit, facts – Does he come to class every Monday? – Do the other students ride the train on Tuesday? – When does the bus come? – Where do those students live? • Use Did for past – Did you come to the party last week? – How did they feel after the test last night?
