VE DAY Victory in Europe day
What is it? VE day is a celebration for the end of the war (1939 -1945). It stands for victory in Europe day. Everybody went onto the streets to celebrate even the two princesses. Some soldiers were reunited with their family and others were buried and mourned. To spread the news it was the end of WWII the church bells were rang ( during war they were not allowed to ring ). Flags were held high in pride as soldiers were rewarded, they had ended the war.
Why was it important This was a special celebration as war brung many hardships. Families were left, rations were made, lives were lost, and countries were ruined. Unfortunately not just soldiers died but many other innocent people did too, but for those who lived they were united with their families. It was hard for nearly everyone but when the bells rang everybody knew its over however some weren’t so excited.
Sad times During war many people died. Soldiers, innocent citizens. After the war there were many widows, many funerals, and many homeless. Years after people were getting old and passed so they couldn’t stay for long, for example Winston Churchill passed 20 years after the end of the war. It wasn’t fun for everyone to celebrate the end of war when they were mourning.
