Current focus
VCAA advice on VCAL • There are no changes to the certificate or assessment requirements of VCAL • Providers are encouraged to use the flexibility already available within VCAL to modify programs • VCAA will issue additional advice on using the flexibility before the end of Term 3
Understanding VCAL • Teachers and coordinators need to understand the complexities of the certificate in order to use the flexibilities – the Strand structure, curriculum that can provide credit, levels of achievement, role of VET, carry forward credit • Most Strand requirements can be met in multiple ways • VCAL certificates do not need to be completed in a calendar year. There is mid year certification available. • The role of VET in meeting the ISS Strand additional VCAL credits
A VASS eligibility report • A report provides information about a student’s enrolment • You should run an eligibility report immediately (and regularly) • It identifies the amount and type of credit based on the enrolment • It provides the data to support you in changing a student's enrolment and to ensure they can meet the requirements of the certificate.

VCAA advice – regularly updated
VCAA advice on VET provision • Remote learning where possible • On site assessment for practical activities under Essential Assessment provisions • Change unit delivery sequencing • Change unit selection, import knowledge based unit/s more suited to remote learning
VCAA advice on scored assessment • Adjusted dates gives more time for practical assessment. • Scored unit 3 and 4 sequences have been reviewed to determine the amount of learning of a practical nature. • Advice on determining a derived score for the 3 rd or final scored task from. • All details are at https: //www. vcaa. vic. edu. au/curriculum/vet/vce-vetprograms/Pages/Index. aspx
Structured Workplace Learning Recognition • The time spent in a workplace for SWL Recognition can be reduced for 2020 in order to access credit for Workplace Learning. • Students will still be required to reflect on the number of units of competency identified in either the VCE VET program or Apprenticeship or Traineeship Workplace Learning Record. • Schools are able to make a judgement as to what constitutes a reasonable exposure to a workplace, this can be from 2019 if no prior SWL recognition has been completed. • It is also possible to defer completion of the Workplace Learning Record until later in the year.
The Eligibility Reports • The VCAA has set all blank VET results to NYC for Year 12 VCE and all VCAL students. • Schools have been requested to run an Eligibility Report for all of the students in this subset. • Schools should then analyse these reports for any students who come up as ineligible.
Interpreting the Eligibility Reports • Look at the numbers. ‒ Less than 10 VCAL credits or 16 VCE units means action required. • Understand the requirements of the certificate. ‒ 5 strands for VCAL, 3 units of English and 3 additional unit 3 & 4 sequences for VCE. • Look at the detail of the VET enrolments and results ‒ Which units are complete, how big are they, which are still to come.
