VANUATU | WASH SITUATION UPDATE: TC HAROLD TROPICAL CYCLONE HAROLD RESPONSE SITUATION OVERVIEW TC Harold passed 50 -100 km north west to south across Pentecost island in Penama Province as a Category 5 cyclone on the 11 th & 13 th of April 2020. Destructive winds and heavy rain caused significant damage. This graphic summarises the Government of Vanuatu’s response. Many partner agencies supported the response. Over 159, 474 affected population • Over 92, 494 Assessed • Roughly 58 % Coverage • About 104 water infrastructure damaged (repair cost valued at approx. $8. 4 million USD) • About 7, 814 HH received damaged on sanitation facilities according to NDMO IRA data. • Damage to WASH in Health facilities were estimated at $1. 6 million USD • Win. S and ECCE repair cost estimated valued at $ 2. 45 million USD WASH INTERVENTIONS Overall Objective: To provide immediate access to safe water, appropriate sanitation facilities, and WASH Key messages to all vulnerable people in affected communities. • 47 communities assessed • 47 communities’ water system restored through quick fix. • 218, 000 L of water was provided to 17 communities through emergency water trucking • Distribution of water filters to health centers, household with disabilities, and children under 2 -5 years • Water disinfection-Chlorination of Luganville and Lakatoro urban water supply system. • Distribution of bottled water by NDMO • Monitoring of Water Quality using CBT kit • Over 60, 000 people reached with WASH key messages through hygiene promotion activities TOTAL BENEFICIARIES REACHED 80, 000+ Beneficiaries TOTAL FUNDS UTILIZED: $266, 800 USD WASH DISTRIBUTION 319 BUCKETS 5, 356 HYGIENE KITS 93 WATER FILTERS 6, 162 CARTONS OF WATER 4, 600 SOAP 833 PURIFICATION TABLETS 7, 083 JERRY CANS PARTNERS DONORS - ADRA - UNICEF - ISRA AID - MFAT Red Cross - SEA MERCY SCA - Van Gov World Vision No. of WASH ERTs mobilized; 41 PERSONEL
