Admissions > Admissions Information – 1 year program (4 quarters) on Seattle Campus – Preparing students to take the NCLEX to become an RN (Registered Nurse) – We receive ~270 -350 applications a year – Application deadline-11: 59 pm (PST) October 15 th – Offers sent out ~ mid-December – UW Postbac application due February 15 th for Autumn Quarter
ABSN Application Tells Us… 1. Can you handle the program academically? 2. Do you know what nurses do? (Understand the nursing role) 3. Are you a good fit for nursing? 4. Are you a good fit for the ABSN i. e. will you be successful? 5. Are you a critical thinker?

ABSN Prerequisites > Completed Bachelor Degree before matriculation in the Fall > Three Natural World Science (NWS) courses completed before applying > 3. 0 (B) or higher in each of the NWS courses > All NWS completed by matriculation (Autumn Quarter) > Additional required course work Lifespan Growth and Development/Developmental Psychology and Statistics
ABSN Prerequisites continued Natural World > > > General Chemistry Organic Chemistry Human Anatomy Human Physiology Microbiology Nutrition Minimum 3 NWS courses complete at time of application/6 NWS, Lifespan, and Statistics completed at matriculation GPA – 3. 0 for all NWS, Lifespan, and Statistics Cumulative GPA for all completed college-level coursework– 2. 8
Transcripts > Holistic Review – Online vs In-Classroom courses – Expiration – there is no expiration but we recommend courses be current so students retain the information – Retakes – we take the higher grade if you retake a course > Focus on trends – Are there a lot of withdrawals? – Did grades improve over time – Was there extenuating circumstances? (optional essay) > Consistency
Healthcare Experience –For Fall 2021 > Due to Covid-19, the school of nursing recognizes that safety is important to everyone that health care experience may be challenging or risky for applicants. For Fall 2021, hands-on health care experience will not be required. > Applicants are expected to clearly understand the RN role.
Resume > Four Sections – – – Healthcare Experience Community Service and Involvement Leadership and Teaching Healthcare Trainings and Certifications Optional Foreign Language proficiency 1000 words total
Personal Statement > > > > Reflect on healthcare experience Answer all four of the prompts No more than 1500 words for the first three prompts No more than 250 words for the fourth prompt Be honest Provide detailed examples Understand Cultural Humility Reflect
Personal Statement continued #1: Your understanding of Nursing and how might this shape your future practice. #2: Strengths and weaknesses help you clarify your future aspirations as a nurse. #3: Cultural Humility is essential to healthcare and nursing, know the principles. #4: ABSN is rigorous (22 credits and 70 hrs. /week). Be prepared and have a plan
Letter of Recommendation > Specific Questions > Ask a nurse to write it > Talk to them about the questions / provide information > Check in with them > Give recommenders enough time to write a recommendation
Proctored Essay > > All applicants are invited It will be online this year 1 -hr timed exam Two parts: – Writing – Math > No calculators > Take risks when choosing your scenario
Admitted Students > Admission to UW undergraduate program required (if you are not already a UW student) > Historically we accept 64 students to start in the Fall (this may change year to year) > Waitlist-all admissible will be put on the waitlist in ranked order > Financial Aid – School of Nursing Scholarship Applications due in July – FAFSA – WASFA > Housing – Check UW Housing and Food Services
