Y 7 Table Tennis – Backhand Strokes Backhand Block The backhand block is a defensive shot used to counter an attacking shot that your opponent has just played. This would be used to get the ball back over the net and keep yourself in the rally How to play the shot - Knees bent, shoulder width apart - Bat NOT angled in any way - Try to meet the ball as it bounces on your side of the table - Little movement in your arm/wrist - Let the ball bounce off your bat and onto your opponents side Backhand Push The backhand push is also a defensive shot. When this shot is played it should create backspin meaning your opponent would either have to use a top spin shot or play a back spin shot like yours. How to play the shot - Angle bat towards ceiling - Bring bat back to stomach - Extend arm out and brush underneath the ball - Finish with bat pointing down towards the net
