Safety Using the Lathe n n n n n Always wear safety glasses. Do not wear rings, watches or loose clothing. If you have long hair, tie it up and wear a cap. Always ensure piece is fixed securely in the chuck Never leave the Chuck key in the chuck. Keep your face and eyes away from flying chips. Do not lean on the machine. Do not place hands on work turning in the lathe. Do not use callipers or gauges on a workpiece while the workpiece is moving. Do not leave lathe unattended while it is running.
