Guiding Question How can I navigate the ELP Standards to support my planning and instruction for developing students’ language and content knowledge?
8 Guiding Principles Jigsaw 1. Read the Guiding Principle that corresponds to your group number. 2. Write the title of the Guiding Principle and create a nonlinguistic representation on poster paper. 3. Post on wall. Example: 6. Special Needs See Pages 1 -3
8 Guiding Principles Gallery Walk 1. With your jigsaw group, begin gallery walk to the right of your poster. 2. For each poster, using your Guiding Principles Notes Page (handout): a. Read the corresponding Guiding Principle b. Review poster and record “Key Take-Aways” on notes page c. Discuss with group what resonates with you 3. Continue gallery walk until all Guiding Principles are reviewed

Let’s Dig In! • Within your groups, distribute ELPS evenly to read analyze (ELPS with Correspondences). • Summarize each ELP • Share your summary and thoughts on those standards with your group. • Whole group share out.
Break Time 10 Minutes
Let’s fill out an activity sheet: 1. Pick an ELA standard, Literacy standard, Math Practice, or Science Practice along with a grade level. 2. Go to relevant Matrix (page 34 for Math and Science Practices). The beginning of each grade level displays an ELA standards matrix. With Literacy in Content matrices for grades 6 -12). 3. Locate the corresponding ELP Standard from the matrix. 4. Once you have found the corresponding ELP Standard, complete the worksheet.
With a partner, fill out activity sheet: 1. Pick an ELA CCSS, Literacy CCSS, Math Practice, or Science Practice and grade level. 2. Go to relevant Matrix. 3. From there locate the corresponding ELP Standard. 4. Once you have found the corresponding ELP Standard, complete the worksheet.
