Using the Microscope 1. Plug in microscope 2. Place the specimen on the stage

Using the Microscope 1. Plug in microscope 2. Place the specimen on the stage 3. Make sure wet specimens have a coverslip (wet mount) – Protects objective lens from getting slimed 4. Turn on the light 5. Put the scanning objective in place 6. Using coarse adjustment, slowly bring the specimen into focus – Coarse adjustment is only used with the scanning objective

Use continued 7. Rotate the diaphragm to view the specimen in the best possible

If desired, turn the nosepiece so the next higher power objective is in place 10. Using the fine adjustment only, adjust the focus at this magnification. A correctly adjusted microscope will not hit the slide at high power 11. Repeat steps 8 -10 again to move to the next higher power
