WHAT IS RECLAIMED WATER Ø Requirements: l l l Reclaimed water is water that has been treated to at least the PRODUCER’S wastewater permit effluent concentration limits Only On-Demand use Permit must provide for an alternative method of disposal when there is no demand for reclaimed water • Discharge • Land Application

TYPES OF RECLAIMED WATER Ø TYPE I - For use where contact between water and humans is likely l Specific Allowed Uses: • • Irrigation of parks, athletic fields, school yards, and residences Wading, boating or fishing in impoundments Fire protection - internal sprinklers or hydrants Food crop irrigation where water may contact edible portion Irrigation of pastures for milking animals Toilet or urinal flushing Any Type II use

TYPES OF RECLAIMED WATER (CONT’D) Ø TYPE II - For use where contact between water and humans is unlikely l Uses: • Irrigation of sod farms, silviculture, limited access highway rights of way, and other remote sites (sites not used by public during irrigation) • Maintenance of impoundments or natural water bodies – no direct human contact • Soil Compaction and Dust Control in construction sites – minimal aerosol drift • Food Crop Irrigation where water will not contact edible portion • Cooling Tower make up water • Irrigation of animal feed crops other than pastures for milking animals

RECLAIMED WATER QUALITY STANDARDS Ø Type I l BOD 5 or CBOD 5 Turbidity 5 mg/l 3 NTU l Fecal Coliform or E. Coli l Enterococci 20 CFU/100 m. L (30 -day geometric mean) 75 CFU/100 m. L (max. single grab sample) 4 CFU/100 m. L (30 -day geometric mean) 9 CFU/100 m. L (max. single grab sample) l Notes: ‾ The standards represent 30 -day average ‾ Enterococci only in coastal areas

SAMPLING AND ANALYSIS Type I Reclaimed Water Uses – Twice per week • Type II Reclaimed Water Uses – Once per week •

RECORD KEEPING AND REPORTING The reclaimed water provider or producer shall report to the commission on a monthly basis the following: Volume of reclaimed water delivered to a user or provider • Quality of reclaimed water delivered to a user or provider reported as a monthly average, except those listed as maximum single grab sample, for each quality criteria • Notes: ‾ ‾ Notify TCEQ at least 30 days before reclaimed water is distributed The facility will be issued monthly effluent report (MER) forms for reporting quality and quantity of reclaimed water used
