Has your policy recently changed? If so, why? n GA – No. TN – No, but probably will. n NC - NA (No? ). n MS - No, but probably will. n MO - NA (No? ). n KY - Yes, to test RR 2 and LL varieties in 2009. n AR - No, but probably will. n AL – Yes, started allowing ITS in 2009. n
If you allow companies to enter ITS, do you require MSDSs? GA - No, maintain notebook with all MSDSs. n TN - No, look them up. n NC - No, already have them. n MS - Yes. n MO - Yes. n KY - No, but all treatments must be listed. n AR - No, but all treatments must be listed. n AL - Yes. n
If you pack ITS, what safety precautions do you use? GA – Respirators, glasses, shields or Tyvek suits. n TN – Respirators and gloves. n NC – Respirator, gloves, lab coat, and ventilated room. n MS – Rubber gloves and good ventilation. n MO – Respirator, gloves and glasses. n KY – Gloves, mask, large exhaust fans. n AR – Long sleeves, gloves, masks, goggles. n AL – Gloves, mask and other as required. n
What type of seed packing equipment do you use? GA - Seed counters. n TN - Seed counters and volumetric metering machines. n NC - Old Mill seed counter. n MS - Old Mill seed counter then by volume. n MO - vibrating bowl counter then by volume. n KY - 100 -seed-count board then volumetric n AR – 100 -count then Speed Dee (volumetric) n
Do most growers in your area use ITS? GA – Crop dependent. n TN – No. n NC – No. n MS – Not sure but use is increasing. n MO – Not sure but not a majority. n KY – Probably not but available as an option. n AR – Estimated 10% in 2008 and 20% in 2009. n AL – No but increasingly as “insurance” for expensive seed. n
Has research been conducted in your area to determine if ITS is n GA – Yes. cost effective? TN – Yes, with variable results. n NC – Not aware of any. n MS – Yes, by seed companies. n MO – Probably but don’t know. n KY – Yes, 5 -year study showed no significant yield increase. n AR - Yes. n AL – Yes, in 2008 but was inconclusive. n
In 2010 will you allow entries with ITS if companies won’t enter them unless you do? GA – Yes (previously didn’t allow ITS). n TN – Probably (previously didn’t allow ITS). n NC – Yes (previously allowed ITS). n MS – Yes (previously didn’t allow ITS). n MO – Yes (previously allowed ITS). n KY – Yes (previously allowed ITS). n AR – Probably (previously didn’t allow ITS). n AL – Yes (previously allowed ITS). n
Survey of Selected Seed Companies Surveyed 24 companies. n 9 responded n 5 questions n
Will all, part or none of seed that your company sells be IT? Bayer (LL) – Part of it, by request of grower. n Terral – None. May be treated by retailer. n Syngenta – 60% plus on-site treatment. n Stine – RR 2 only. n CPS/Dyna. Gro – Part of it, by request of grower n Stratton Seed – Part of it, by request of grower. n
If all or part will be treated, with what product(s)? Bayer (LL) – Trilex 6000 and other by request? n Terral – Decision left to retailer. n Syngenta – Crusier. Maxx. n Stine – RR 2 with Cruiser. Maxx n CPS/Dyna. Gro – Crusier, Gaucho n Stratton Seed – Cruiser. Maxx n Monsanto – RR 2 with Acceleron n Pioneer - Gaucho n
Has your policy on IST recently changed? If so, why? Bayer (LL) – Yes, all seed treated in 2009. n Terral – No. n Syngenta – Crusier. Maxx is policy for 2010. n Stine – Switched to Cruiser. Maxx. n CPS/Dyna. Gro – Not since 2008. n Stratton Seed – No. n Monsanto – Yes, to maximize yield potential. n Hornbeck – No. n
If all or part will be treated, will you provide OVTs untreated if required? Bayer (LL) – Yes. . . n Terral – Yes, but. . . n Syngenta – Yes, but. . . n CPS/Dyna. Gro – Yes, but. . . n Stratton Seed – Yes, but. . . n Monsanto – “General policy is to forego entry of RR 2 s in OVTs that require untreated seed. ” n Pioneer – Yes, but. . . n

Control Soybean Insects – 2007 The roots and nitrogen-fixing nodules of soybean plants are damaged by several insects that inhabit the soil. This list includes beetle larvae, soybean nodule fly larvae, white grubs and wireworms, etc. Additionally, there are several pests of seedling soybean above ground. No treatment thresholds have been determined yet for these pests and control measures for this kind of damage are not recommended. Seed treatments are currently being evaluated.
