Bibliometrics in peer review u u Evaluation of individuals Evaluation of funding applications Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China
Evaluation of individuals Objects: researchers and university teachers Quantitative evaluation becomes increasingly important No unified standard, varies among institutions General requirements related to bibliometrics Ø Ø Ø l l To obtain a professional title, one must have published certain quantity of papers, and To keep the title, one must keep publishing certain quantity of papers each year Journal ranks (e. g. , IF) Citation impact Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China
Evaluation of funding applications ß ß Biliometrics does play a role Requirements vary among different government funding programs Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China
The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC ) For general projects in Management Science ß ß ß Correctness, preciseness, and innovativeness Appropriateness of the research content Clearness of the research objective Appropriateness and rationality of methodology and technical routes Research capability and background of the applicant and his/her team Rationality of budget plan Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China
National Basic Research Program (973) — the MOST ß ß ß National need Research front Research team and research background Innovativeness Design of research scheme. Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China
Conclusion ß ß Bibliometrics started much later in China compared to leading nations, but has been developing fast since the beginning of the 21 st century; China is still on the stage of learning and catching up; International collaboration plays critical role in raising China’s research competence and international visibility. Bibliometrics indicators play a role in peer review. But standards vary among institutions or government funding programs. Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China
