Current US Tier 1 paths through US LHCNet and ESnet Ciena bug was fixed

Current US Tier 1 paths through US LHCNet and ESnet Ciena bug was fixed in January, new OS well tested and put in production US LHCNet is now back in nominal configuration US LHC NWG

2009/2010 topology US LHC NWG We are closing our RFP for 2009/2010 circuits 6 transatlantic links 2 each per US Tier 1 To be installed in summer 2009 Deployment to be scheduled after the chassis upgrades (c. f. next slide)

Ciena Upgrade US LHC NWG Latest LHC schedule means no time for large interventions/upgrades

Ciena Upgrade US LHC NWG Latest LHC schedule means no time for large interventions/upgrades from summer 2009 - ~ end 2010 With the new circuits in place, two of the currently used Core. Director CI chassis’ are fully populated Enough capacity for 2009/2010, but no space in case need for more connections would arise Original plan included a backplane upgrade and double density line cards Instead, we will exchange the CI chassis for the full-size (1 rack) Core. Director 4 x switching and port capacity Chassis upgrade planned for July 2009 Temporary solution to avoid capacity problems, before going to the next platform 40 G/100 G

Monitoring US LHC NWG Internally USLHCNet uses Mon. ALISA monitoring framework Link utilisation and per flow time series Link/circuit status, mail and/or SMS notification to NOC TL 1 module for Ciena Core. Directors Available on http: //repository. uslhcnet. org: 8080 (or via www. uslhcnet. org)

Perf. SONAR US LHC NWG US LHCNet has deployed a pre-release of Perf. SONAR

Perf. SONAR US LHC NWG US LHCNet has deployed a pre-release of Perf. SONAR with TL 1 support This release is necessary for providing correct status to E 2 EMON Avoids gateway “procreation” (TL 1 ->Spectrum->PS) Very important: monitoring VCG instead of link status E. g. LHC OPN circuits are protected Works flawlessly (so far) with E 2 EMON Need to monitor also VC operational bandwidth Depending on configuration, VC can continue to operate during an outage, but at reduced bandwidth New circuit status: “degraded” in case of operational bandwidth falling below provisioned bandwidth E 2 EMON needs to correctly interpret this information
