Infrastructure Improvements Needed for Vertical Test of HQ Magnets Independent of Length: Power supply upgrade: presently Imax=15 k. A; adding 2 more IGBTs increases Imax=18 k. A; parts are in-house, cost of labor 2 months x (1 EE + 2 ET) $117 k. Extension of power leads for 18 k. A testing: present cable test buswork and leads good to 25 k. A; these must be extended from cable test facility to magnet test dewars cost has not been estimated yet. Quench protection systems: Quench detector systems (coil difference and current derivative) in place; protection heater firing systems in place no upgrades necessary Energy extraction dump resistor: present dump resistor is good to 550 V, may need to change; value to be determined depends on max quench voltage expected. Infrastructure Improvements Needed for Vertical Test of HQ Magnets Length-Dependent: 4 m testing at 4. 5 K: Test dewars 6 m deep no upgrades are necessary. 4 m magnetic field measurements: RHIC coils of proper length and radius are available; anti-cryostats for these coils are also available no upgrades are necessary.
