TQC 02 bore with midplane shim After keying, the midplane shim at the coil 16/18 interface is out of position over a length of about 50 cm. TQC 02 will be decollared any coil damage will be assessed. If the coils are assessed to be undamaged, the magnet will be recollared. This will delay the schedule by about 8 working days. TQC 02 Yoke The TQC 02 bolted yoke has been pressed with control spacers installed, but without collared coil, then measured internally on a CMM, at the positions shown at 5 longitudinal positions. These measurements will be used to verify the yoke size, and to determine the final size of the collar-yoke shim. LARP Teleconference April 3, 2007 TQC 02 Construction Status 12

TQC 02 Assembly Status TQC 02 collared coil assembly has been completed, and all

TQC 02 Assembly Status TQC 02 collared coil assembly has been completed, and all measurements (collar deflection and strain gauges) have been taken. Shim system for TQC 02 is based on: a. FEA using an initial azimuthal MOE of coils of 20 GPa, with plastic deformation after first pressing. b. Coordinate machine measurements of coil size in free state. Collar deflection measurements indicate that preload is consistent with predictions. Mid-plane shim between two coils is out of place after collaring. Magnet will be de-collared and the coils assessed for damage. If it is determined that the coils are not damaged, TQC 02 will be re-collared and completed. Assembled yoke has been measured. Collar-yoke shim will be determined based on FEA coupled with measured sizes of collar and yoke diameters. LARP Teleconference April 3, 2007 TQC 02 Construction Status 13
