Oregon City Mercury Spill n n Mercury found on driveway of residence. Homeowner tried to clean it up, but instead spread it around. Issues: n Homeowner would not provide access. Had to obtain warrant. n Assessing outdoor mercury contamination when it’s constantly wet and raining.
PGE Substation Fire at PGE substation in Newburg, OR caused explosion of PCB oil containing equipment. Sprayed road, adjacent building, cars, trees. n Issues: n Low level PCB contamination – below TSCA regulatory levels. n Oversight/direction of PRP lead response.
Portland & Western RR Derailment n n Derailment involving tank cars of ethanol. Fire consumed most of 22, 000 gallons released, but some firefighting runoff entered adjacent wetland with ESA species. Issues: n n Ethanol itself is neither an oil or a haz sub. However, denatured with up to 5% gasoline. No indication of product or sheen in wetland – FOSC demobilized and OR DEQ oversaw remaining cleanup.
