BIA ADVOCACY: REACTIVE STEPS Challenges met during construction were resolved effectively with advocacy from the BIA: CHALLENGE Lacking communication from construction company; e. g. businesses were not being given enough notice about service disruptions, road closures etc. CHALLENGE SOLUTION IBI Group hired a communications liaison to be the BIA’s point person for the daily goings-on and project updates BIA successfully submitted a noise exemption request to have crews work later into the evening and on weekends so work would be completed quicker BIA successfully requested only one lane of the road to be closed at a time, leaving the other open for through traffic and levy reductions were provided Construction delays Road closures caused guests to completely avoid the area and traffic to businesses decreased CHALLENGE Construction fatigue among businesses SOLUTION BIA facilitated a membership vote to determine whether or not to continue with the second stage of Phase 1 or take a break to help businesses recover some losses Up.
