Share out with beads and stickers…. all hands on deck and circulate through the room. Explain why the beads, etc. Did you notice how much you were talking? What made it easy to talk with the people around you? Were there commonalities with what you were talking about?
• • Hard to believe, but we are not experts. These are things that we have found to motivate our students to make the language their own and use and enjoy using it: 1. like to talk about themselves 2. Like to be recognized 3. Like to compete 2. The need to model things for them. 3. Excellent form of formative assessment. If they are using it orally, they are really internalizing the material being taught.
We must offer our students multiple opporuntities to practice and demonstrate their growth towards the standards. Here are some examples that we use interpersonal communication to do just that.

NOVICE LEVEL ACTIVITIES I can communicate on (some) very familiar topics usingle words and phrases that I have practiced and memorized. (NL, NM) I can communicate and exchange information about familiar topics using phrases and simple sentences, sometimes supported by memorized language. I can usually handle short social interactions in every day situations by asking and answering simple questions.
