New and Upgraded Access Circuits ULAKBIM AP • Circuit was brought into service on 4 th December 2002 • Although terminated on a STM-1 port was initially a 34 Mb IP tunnel through a third party provider to ULAKBIM • The access circuit then was upgraded to a pure STM-1 connection via a satellite link on the 23 rd January 2003. SINET AP • Circuit was brought into service on 3 rd January 2003 • The circuit results in a change of provider from KDDI to NTT who appear to be managing the SINET/NII network. • The link capacity (STM-1) is the same as its predecessor but sees a move away from ATM. This was the last ATM circuit connected to the network. DANCERT security policy - Robert Walton
New and Upgraded Access Circuits HEAnet AP Primary and Back-up • The circuits was brought into service on 23 rd January 2003 • Both circuits were upgrade in line with the increased capacity to the Irish Po. P (dual 2. 5 G circuits) • The increased bandwidth was from dual STM-1 to dual 2. 5 G capacities. SANET AP • The circuits was upgraded on the 9 th December 2002 • The increased access was from 100 Mbps to 200 Mbps by way of rate limiting on the GEANT GE interface. • The upgrade was accommodated by a move from FE to GE DANCERT security policy - Robert Walton
Upgraded Circuits DE - GR • The final circuit of the Greek migration from 4 x STM-1 to 2 x STM-4 (the other being UK-GR) • The increased capacity was from dual STM-1 to STM-4 • The circuit was brought into production on the 4 th October 2002. • The circuit was upgraded from STM-1 to STM-16 IE - DE allowing HEAnet gigabit capacity to GEANT. • The circuits was terminated on the new Juniper M 40 which had been installed to accommodate the upgrade. A migration then occurred. • IE - DE is provided by Global Crossing and was brought into production on the 20 th December 2002 DANCERT security policy - Robert Walton
Upgraded Circuits • The circuit was upgraded from STM-1 to STM-16 IE - UK allowing HEAnet gigabit capacity to GEANT. • The circuits was terminated on the new Juniper M 40 which had been installed to accommodate the upgrade. A migration then occurred. • IE - UK is provided by Cable and Wireless and was brought into production on the 22 nd January 2003 DANCERT security policy - Robert Walton
DWS Upgrades Two NREN’s had their DWS subscriptions upgraded, both in December 2002. Those were, Grnet - Upgraded from 155 Mbps to 310 Mbps Roedunet - Upgraded from 35 Mbps to 70 Mbps. Grnet are also intending to first increase their DWS subscription to 465 Mbps and then ultimately to 622 Mbps. DANCERT security policy - Robert Walton
Proposed Network Upgrades • Access port to Russian Research network will be connected to GEANT at the Swedish Po. P provided by TELIA. • Roedunet access circuit will be upgraded from STM 1 to STM-4 • HU-SI GEANT circuit will be upgraded from STM-1 to STM-4 DANCERT security policy - Robert Walton
Qo. S config The Qo. S configuration has completed on most of the GEANT routers allowing Premium IP, Best Effort and Less than Best Effort class of services. These routers are represented as green on the following map. The routers coloured yellow are those that have been reused from TEN-155, these have old FPC’s that do not allow for the full functionality of Qo. S. As such BE is not ideally protected by LBE and the bandwidth is effectively shared. The red routers are the Cicsco 7 k’s, these routers are not powerful enough to provide Qo. S functionality.
