What is SAGE 2 YC? • Supporting and Advancing Geoscience Education in Two-Year Colleges • From 2011 -2015, the SAGE 2 YC project engaged 2 YC geoscience faculty in a targeted professional development program focused on sharing successful strategies for teaching students with a range of abilities, experiences, and goals, and for preparing 2 YC students for the geoscience
What/Who is a Change Agent? • Began in 2015 • The project is working to build a national network of self-sustaining local communities of 2 YC geoscience faculty and administrators who use evidence-based strategies to: – improve all students' academic success, – broaden participation, and – facilitate professional pathways for students into the STEM workforce.
Annual Workshops • Previous Workshops: – Supporting Geoscience Student Success Through Active Learning, Metacognition, and GRIT (October 2016) – Improving Student Success and Broadening Participation of Underrepresented Minorities in the Geosciences (February 2018) • Future fall workshops? – Where do we want to go from here?
Texas Change Agent Goals • Create a repository of active learning activities for our region • Prevent us from reinventing the wheel all of the time • Develop a community where we discuss things that work and don’t work in our classroom, share our best practices, strategies for embracing technology in classrooms
