Unpacking Prayer Part 10: Our Deliverance in Christ

Matthew 6: 13 “And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. “ May we not be led into temptation – a confession of our weakness. But rather You deliver us from the evil one! ! K EE W S I H T – an expression of our dependence.

- hruomai (‘ρύομαι), to draw out, to Deliver draw to one’s self, to rescue, to deliver. To deliver is not only to rescue from something dangerous, but to rescue to a place of safety.

What has Jesus delivered us from? ● The Law (Rom. 7: 5 -6)

Romans 7: 5 -6 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. But we have been delivered from the law now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.

What has Jesus delivered us from? ● The Law (Rom. 7: 5 -6) ● The power of darkness (Col 1: 13)

Colossians 1: 13 -14 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.

1 Thessalonians 1: 8 -10 For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place. Your faith toward God has gone out, so that we do not need to say anything. For they themselves declare concerning us what manner of entry we had to you, and how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come.

What has Jesus delivered us to? ● Grace ● The kingdom of Christ ● The blessings of God

Are we suppose to pray for that which is already true?

God has, is, and will deliver us from all of these things. Our prayers, however, are about our present challenges around the attacks from the trinity of evil. For this, we proclaim our dependence on the work of God in our lives to be successful.

James 4: 7 -8 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.

When God delivers us from the evil one, He delivers us to the Good One: Himself. He holds us tightly in His loving arms.
