Hello, my name is Steven Ohnmacht and I’m coming in from Phoenix, AZ. Currently I am interested in pursuing an infectious disease fellowship but I’m open to whatever the future holds. As for why NM I can honestly say that I fell in love with Albuquerque the moment I first visited. Everything from the restaurant scene to the Sandia hiking trails really clicked with me.

Syed Muhammad Hamza Anwar that's right take a breather after spelling it out Lol! I come from the extremely crowded and lively city of Pakistan, Karachi. I am 26 years old and so my beard doesn't do justice to my face. I have a love of poetry and literature and I compose my own poems and compositions from time to time. My first love is soccer/football and my second love is medicine. I love to try new things and I love to improve positively. I see the current pandemic as a time for me to reflect upon myself and improve various aspects of my life that otherwise I cannot focus on. Albuquerque shares the same climate as that of Karachi, my home town and so I know I will feel right at home. I cannot wait to meet everyone and start the next phase of my life. I have already changed quite a lot as is evident from my pictures. . I doubt i will change more over the next few years but I hope however I do it happens with you amazing lot cheers! PS sorry for the long one I am just excited!

Half my life in Oklahoma, half in Colorado. Interested in Pulm/Crit and Heme/Onc as a career. I'm excited to explore the hiking, skiing, and culture that ABQ and NM have to offer! Hit me up if you're into board games! Would love to get a group going here.

I’m Steven, an incoming prelim IM resident and future PM&R physician. Growing up in Florida, I developed a passion for fitness and athletics, which led me to major in kinesiology during undergrad. I love exploring all kinds of movement communities, but over the years most of my training has centered around parkour and ninja warrior. I was drawn to the friendliness, active lifestyle, and diverse medical training in Albuquerque. I’m excited to grow roots here and become a part of the community! Looking forward to meeting you and the rest of our UNM family.

Hi guys! I'm Erick coming from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and I am excited to start my training as an internal medicine resident at UNM. I am an avid outdoors person and love to race in triathlons and marathons as well as travel to many countries. I am interested in pursuing a career in either cardiology or sleep medicine. During these unprecedented times of the pandemic I have chosen to continue to train and explore different outdoor running and hiking venues and New Mexico has given me many options with that due to its countless numbers of trails and parks. I chose to come to UNM as I felt the residents were very happy with their training here as well as the evident camaraderie I witnessed. I want to feel like part of a family during my medical training and I feel this is the place for that. I am also hoping to be of help to the local spanish speakers here as I want to help improve medical care for minorities. I am beyond excited to start and meet everyone.

I grew up in a town near Multan, an ancient city situated in the Punjab province of Pakistan. My family immigrated to Waco, Texas in 200809. I completed my undergraduate education at Baylor University and went to TTUHSC for medical school. I happened to visit Albuquerque a few times in the past, and I have always found its people very welcoming and genial. Albuquerque has a small town feel to it with amenities of any big city, which suits my taste perfectly. When I visited UNM during an interview, it felt like an academic institution par excellence with a great learning environment where I can comfortably spend next few years and grow exponentially personally and professionally. I am an avid cricket fan and watch and play it during my free time. I play soccer and badminton as well when I get chance.

I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon and had spent my entire life in the PNW prior to coming to UNM. Outside of medicine I really enjoy watching basketball (very prideful and emotionally invested Portland Trail. Blazer fan), running and watching food vlogs. My career interests at the moment are pulmonary/critical care but a lot can change in 3 years! Looking forward to working alongside all of you!

I was born and raised in New Mexico in a small town outside of Albuquerque. I am a proud wife to my husband, who is also a native New Mexican. We have an incredible 3 -year-old boy who remains at the foundation of my inspiration for life. We are lucky to have very supportive families, who help make it possible for me to pursue medicine while still being a mother. When I am not studying or caring for patients, you will likely find me spending time with family or traveling. I love our dynamic weather and take advantage of being outside as often as I can. As a graduate from UNM SOM, I’ve grown to love this program and I look forward to training alongside our outstanding residents and faculty.

I am originally from a small town near Madison, Wisconsin. After high school, my family relocated to central Colorado, which I have called home since then. After college, I took a research & development job building neuroprosthetic devices for people who had lost their vision, which led me to medical school and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation as a specialty. I am especially passionate about working with patients with brain injuries. While there are many reasons why I chose UNM, I have to credit my significant other — an SLP at the UNM/Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital — for initially planting the idea. I'm looking forward to hiking with our dog, mountain biking in the foothills, and skiing in Taos, as well as getting to know and work with you all!

Hey everyone, my name is Tanner Shaw, I am a PM&R Resident that will be with y'all this first year. I was born and raised in Utah and attended BYU for my undergrad and Med School in Fort Worth, Texas. My wife and I have been married for 11 years and we have 3 boys ages 8, 6, and 3. We LOVE outdoor activities and sports of all kinds! My wife also loves to bake and will send me lots of food for everyone to eat!

I am from Minnesota and completed medical school in North Dakota. New Mexico drew me in due to the excitement of its faculty for the program during my interview and its proximity to the mountains. I used to have to drive all day just to go hiking, now there's a mountain range basically in my backyard!

Hi everyone! My name is Harsh and I’m from Dublin, California. I feel fortunate to have been raised by my loving mom, dad, and younger sister. I went to med school at Kansas City University where I met my fiancée, Kelsey (we got engaged earlier this year)! She’s going to be an incoming pediatrics intern at UNM. We had planned to go to Europe after graduating, but settled for hanging out with our recently adopted dog Benny and moving to Albuquerque earlier than we’d planned. My hobbies include hiking, traveling, cooking, reading, and playing racket sports. Since shelter in place started, I’ve picked up some new hobbies that I had been putting on the shelf– journaling more regularly, drawing, and meditating. I’m interested in heme/onc and am looking forward to meeting everyone in the UNM family soon! It’s really exciting to hear about all the exciting things to do around ABQ and New Mexico: plenty of great restaurants, hiking, skiing, national parks, etc. Count me in for an adventure when there’s some time to spare.
