Background information • The University of Tuzla is a public higher education institution which was established in 1976. • In 2001 the University of Tuzla became the first integrated University in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and since has invested its efforts in creating a model of an integrated university that would work under specific conditions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. • It obtained institutional accreditation from the Cantonal Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports in 2015.
Background information • The teaching is organized in three cycles, in line with the Bologna Process: bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral studies. • The University offers more than 80 study programs in bachelor, master’s and doctoral studies in 12 faculties and Academy of Performing Arts. • Currently, there around 13. 400 students studying at the University of Tuzla in all cycles of studies.

Cooperation agreements • The University of Tuzla has signed over 60 Cooperation Agreements with national and international universities and is focused on developing relationships with the academic community worldwide. • Although cooperation agreements with the national and regional universities (universities in neighboring countries) yield most results in terms of specific cooperation activities such as participation in joint projects, mobility of students and academic staff, joint conferences and alike, the University has had increasingly good cooperation with the universities abroad, most notably universities in Turkey.
Mobility programs • Mobility programs are the most efficient tool in implementing internationalization activities, since they provide the opportunities for both students and academic staff to exchange experience and ideas with their peers abroad. • The University of Tuzla has participated in the following mobility programs: SUNBEAM, an Erasmus Mundus Action 2 – Strand 1 project with the aim to interlink European and Western Balkans universities; it fits into the European policies on higher education by sharing the main objectives of such policies, like promotion of European higher education, improvement and enhancement of the career prospects of students, promotion of the intercultural understanding through cooperation with third-countries and sustainable development of third-countries in the field of higher education.
Mobility programs Erasmus Mundus Action 2 program Join. EU-SEE (I, III, IV and Penta) funded by the European Commission, which offers scholarships for undergraduate, master, Ph. D and post-doctoral students as well as for university staff. SIGMA and SIGMA Agile, an Erasmus Mundus Action 2 project within the European Commission scholarship program Erasmus Mundus Action 2, Strand 1, Lot 2, Western Balkans - part of a wider program that aims at promoting institutional cooperation and mobility between the EU and other parts of the world. Central European Exchange Program for University Studies (CEEPUS), an international exchange program Mevlana Exchange Program, a program which aims the exchange of students and academic staff between the Turkish higher education institutions and higher education institutions of other countries.

Mobility programs • It is also worth mentioning that the University of Tuzla adopted the Rulebook on International Mobility in 2012 which regulates mobility of academic staff and students and focuses on an important aspect of recognition of mobility for outgoing students and staff. • The Rulebook was designed following best practices in the region and in line with the national and cantonal laws and regulations.
Research projects • The University of Tuzla has participated in international research project and thus encouraged exchange of knowledge and collaboration in various fields of science. Currently, the University is participating in the following international projects: • FP 7 PROJECT: Optimized Diagnostics for Improved Treatment Stratification in Invasive Fungal Diseases – FUNGITEC • SCOPES PROJECT: Computer aided process engineering applied to energy, water, and waste reduction during process design and operation • SEECEL PROJECT: Developing the Entrepreneurial Society in Western Balkans and Turkey - support to the South East European Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning • Research project: Transformation of Vehicle in Filter Mobile – TVIFIM • The University also implements over 50 national projects of research which aim to build University capacities relating to learning and teaching processes.
Project expectations • Finally, the University is in the process of designing the Strategic Development Plan for the University of Tuzla for the period 2015 – 2020, which means that we will be able to incorporate good practices from this project into an official document that we would implement in the future.
