University of Salahaddin College of Engineering Department of Architecture Landscape Design Fourth Year Students Lecturer: Karzan Abdulla DESIGNING THE LANDSCAPE FOR PARK’S MARTYRS MONUMENT PROJECT IN SAMI PARK IN ERBIL CITY The Practical Part
The Project: • In the last decade, Erbil city has witnessed rapid changes. Massive Architectural projects were designed and implemented in all sectors including monument projects. The park’s martyrs monument are one of these projects located in Sami Abbdulrahman park in Erbil city. • The park's Martyrs Monument serves as reminder that "Freedom is not free" in the Kurdish struggle. The park is 2 square-kilometers and visible throughout most of the capital.
The Project: • You as students in the fourth grade are required to design the landscape for the proposed site starting first by understanding the program, then the site design, the 3 D views, and finally performing the detailed design.
Components - Green areas (lawns) - Plants (trees and shrubs) - Paved areas (pathways and nodes) - Entrance - Shelters - Walls - Sitting areas - Any other enrichments (embellishments) that the design requires e. g. : • Lighting • Water features • Art works
Design Considerations : - Taking in consideration the position of the monument in relation with the streets around it. - The surrounding of the site must be studied ( the function, height, style, focal points , etc. . ) - The boundaries of the site cannot be changed. - The requirements for the landscape of such projects in relation to the users of all ages.
Design Considerations : - The accesses including entrances to the complex from the streets and the main entrances of each building inside the landscape must be taken in consideration. - Using sustainable landscape strategies in the design to improve it towards sustainability.
The Submissions: 1. The Prelim (Concept): The Requirements: v Site Plan Scale 1: 200 v General 3 D View 2. The Pre-final Submission: The Requirements: v Site Plan : Scale 1: 200 v General 3 D View v Detailed 3 D views for the components ( walls , ceiling , floor ) and the enrichments e. g. (sitting areas, lighting, water features, art works) minimum 3 details. Detailed to scale drawings concerning many aspects e. g. (structure , materials used, color and texture). Minimum 3 details scale 1: 20 , 1: 10 , 1: 5 v
