Requirements and Eligibility To work on campus as a student employee, you must: • Be a minimum 6 credits (1/2 time) as a undergrad student • Be a minimum 3 credits (1/2 time) as a graduate student AND • enrolled in a degree program
Guidelines Hour Limits – University policy is that students work no more than 30 hours per week while classes are in session. During breaks of 5 or more consecutive days, students may work up to 40 hours per week. International Students – International students can work up to 20 hours per week while classes are in session and 40 hours per week during breaks. Required Paperwork You have 3 days to complete these forms from the day you start work or you must stop working. o Student Authorization Form o Federal I-9 Go to the Office of Student Employment in Wingate Hall to complete the required Federal I-9 Form. If you have worked for the University during the past 12 months and received a paycheck you do not need to complete another I 9. Direct Deposit for your paycheck: if direct deposit is not done your paychecks will be mailed to address on system.
What you need to complete the I 9 When you come to the Office of Student Employment to complete your I 9, you will need to bring original, unexpired identification. An example of acceptable identification is below and you may visit irs. gov for more acceptable identification. https: //www. uscis. gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-9 -paper -version. pdf Proof of Citizenship o Birth Certificate o Social Security Card AND OR o Passport Proof of Identity o Driver’s License o Maine Card
Employer specific forms may include: Confidentiality Agreement – Some jobs may handle sensitive and private information that will need to be kept confidential. You may be asked to sign a Confidentiality Agreement in these situations. Break Waiver – We recognize that students need breaks during the day, but students can elect to waive those breaks with this form. Your employer will ask you to sign this waiver if you elect to waive your breaks. Other Department Policies

Street • Sign up for direct deposit (required) • If no direct deposit paper checks are mailed to the address on system
Getting Paid Entering Your Time – For most jobs on campus you will need to log your hours in Maine. Street weekly and approved bi-weekly by the payroll processor for the department. Payroll Schedule – Students get paid on a biweekly basis, which means you will receive a paycheck through direct deposit every other week.
Federal Work-Study • If you have Federal work-study, it will appear as part of your financial aid award in Maine. Street. • There are non work-study jobs available on campus - if you don’t have work-study it doesn’t mean you can’t get a job on campus. • If you have Federal work-study and you use your entire award before the academic year is over, your employer may or may not choose to pay you as a regular student. • You can check your work-study balance on Maine. Street. Go to view your timesheet and located at bottom (award amount & amount paid).
