Universal Design for Learning Applying UDL to Mathematics Instruction
Discussion Questions • What have you learned about implementing UDL that you would like to incorporate more into your planning, instruction, and assessments? • What questions do you have that may limit your success in implementing these principles? • What resources come to mind when thinking of implementing UDL in your classroom?
UDL: Independent Practice • Each of you brought a unit from your current curriculum. You will now apply what you’ve learned throughout today’s presentation to your own curriculum. • Discuss with your group the units that each of you have brought with you today. Each of you should select at least two lessons from your unit to apply the principles of UDL. Do not select a unit that one of your group members have chosen, since this is an opportunity to share lessons!
UDL: Independent Practice • Use the lesson plan format that we used in the previous task. Here is another copy.
Share Lessons • Individual teachers or partners will share their lessons with their group members.
What have you learned? • Refer back to the KWL chart and complete the “learned” section of the organizer. • Discussion Questions: • What is one thing that you have learned throughout the three PD days that you will likely use in your classroom regularly? • What is one thing that you learned that surprised you? • Are there any general questions that you still have that may limit your success in implementing any of the strategies or principles in your own classroom?
