Harmony Unity is the appearance or condition of oneness. In design, unity is used to describe the feeling that all the elements in a work belong together and make up a harmonious whole. Unity and harmony are essentially the same. An important aspect of visual unity is that the whole must be predominant over the parts: You must first see the whole pattern before you notice the individual elements.

Gestalt Theory 1. The parts of a visual image may be considered, analyzed and evaluated as distinct components. 2. The whole of a visual image is different from and greater than the sum of its parts.

Visual Unity>Gestalt Visual unity or Gestalt is the configuration of a piece so unified as a whole that its properties cannot be derived from its parts.

Proximity- an easy way to achieve unity is to make separate elements look as though they belong together through their proximity. Perceptual groupings are favored according to the nearness of parts. Closer parts form groups by visually uniting. It is the simplest way to create unity.

Continuity is the planned arrangement of various forms, so that a visual relationship is created between two or more individual designs. The Grid is an aid often used to achieve continuity. A grid is the intersection of horizontal and vertical lines.
