What is unity? • Another element of a good paragraph which has only one idea to discuss. • For example, if your paragraph is about the advantages of computer, discuss only that. Do not discuss the disadvantages. • In unity, every supporting sentence must directly explain or prove the main idea stated in the topic sentence. • Off the topic or irrelevant sentences should be avoided.

What is paragraph outlining? • How we plan a paragraph before writing it to make sure that all of the ideas will fit • Three reasons why we learn to outline: 1. Helping us organize our ideas 2. Helping us write more quickly 3. Helping us improve our grammar

Simple Outline • Topic sentence A. First supporting point B. Second supporting point C. Third supporting point • Concluding sentence These are equal in importance and written in parallel form
