The files include: • Birth information, parents, children, and their previous residence. A photo was added in 1929. • Visa Files may include a birth certificate, or a substitute for the birth record. • Documents vary by case. They may include: • Biographical information, including parents names. • Proof of the person’s arrival including information on residence, receipts, and employment records. • Documents vary by case. Naturalization and Citizenship A-Files, 1944 -1951 Alien Case Files document the registration of all aliens over age 14 living in the United States. This was a requirement of the Alien Registration Act of 1940. • Alien Files are also known as A-Files • Case files are identified by the individual’s Alien Registration Number • Files are dated from 1944 to 1951. • For immigrants not yet naturalized, the files contain visas, photographs, affidavits, and correspondence • Order A-Files through the USCIS genealogy program https: //genealogy. uscis. dhs. gov/. © 2017 by Intellectual Reserve, Inc.
