What are the UN Voolunteers assigmentes Over the years, UN Volunteers have served in around 130 countries. Today 40 per cent are in assignments in Africa, 26 per cent in Asia and the Pacific, and 15 percent in Central and Eastern Europe; the remaining assignments are in the Arab States, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. 30 per cent serve in the world's poorest nations. Approximately 50 per cent of UN Volunteers live and work outside capital cities, frequently in remote towns and villages. They cope with basic living standards that can lack such amenities as electricity and running water.

Given that the vast majority of UNV assignments are based on six to twelve month renewable contracts with the expectation that the volunteer serves a year or longer, and due to the fact that the UNV programme is demand-driven, the likelihood that a UNV assignment matches your holiday plans is very low.
