Instructions • • The following Areas of Expertise are the areas in which in-house counsel attorneys should be expected to know and actively contribute to. The farther along the maturity scale, the closer an in-house attorney is to promotion to a position of department leadership. The Current Skills column should highlight the areas where the Law Department Team Member has already developed skills that will prepare them for their career goal. As you document Current Skills, take into consideration whether or not those skills will help you achieve your Five-Year Goal and if are they the appropriate skills for your organization and role. The Targeted Areas of Development & Interest column indicates the areas in the Law Department Team Member would like to grow or development. In this column, identify things in your current role that you could take on that would stretch you, as well as other responsibilties outside of your current role that would facilitate development. The Potential Training column is where potential growth opportunities should be documented. Potential Trainings could include additional areas of responsibility in the Law Department, stretch assignments or projects, classroom training opportunities, or CLEs. 2
