Introduction • A regulatory agency is a public authority or government agency responsible for exercising autonomous authority over some area of human activity in a regulatory or supervisory capacity. • Regulatory agencies deal in the areas of administrative law, regulatory law, secndary legislation and rulemaking. 3/3/2021 2

INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF NURSES • The June 1899 meeting of the international congress of women, Held in London • American nurse leaders, along with leaders from Great Britain and Germany founded international council of nurses (ICN). • It is non political, self- governing organization, with head quarters in Geneva • Meets once every four years 3/3/2021 6

ACHIEVEMENTS The ANA has successfully represented the profession in many ways, despite the small percentage of nurses who are members. It is the only United State nursing association with official representation in the international council of nurses. 3/3/2021 16

INDIAN NURSING COUNCIL • The Indian Nursing Council is an autonomous body under the Government of India, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare • Constituted by the central Government in 1947 in order to establish uniform standards for training nurses, midwives and health visitors. 3/3/2021 33

State nursing councils: The state council functions as • the official control of standards of nursing practice. • It registers only those who have completed recognized programmes of nursing education who meet requirements of competence and character. • This serves as a legal protection to the nurse and protects the public from incompetent nursing practice or poor nursing care
