Unit Nine Elbow Forearm Injuries Lesson Two Muscular

Unit Nine – Elbow & Forearm Injuries Lesson Two: Muscular Anatomy 10/6/2020

An Awesome Elbow

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Introduction Demonstrate the following movements at the wrist & elbow: ◦ Extension ◦ Supination ◦ Flexion ◦ Pronation

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Objective Students will be able to: Recognize relevant muscular anatomy and corresponding functions of the Elbow/Forearm.

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Terminology Extensors/Supinators: ◦ A group of muscles located on the lateral epicondyle of the humerus that produce the combined motions of wrist extension and wrist supination. ◦ Located on the POSTERIOR aspect of the forearm!

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Terminology Flexors/Pronators: ◦ A group of muscles located on the medial epicondyle of the humerus that produce the combined motions of wrist flexion and wrist pronation. ◦ Located on the ANTERIOR aspect of the forearm

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Biceps Brachii Origin ◦ Long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula ◦ Short head: coracoid process Insertion - radial tuberosity Action - elbow flexion

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Triceps Brachii Origin ◦ Long head: infraglenoid turbercle of scapula ◦ Lateral & Medial head: posterior humerus Insertion - olecranon process Action - elbow extension

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Brachioradialis Origin - lateral distal humerus Insertion - lateral distal radius Action - elbow flexion (neutral forearm)

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Forearm Extensors Origin - Lateral epicondyle of the humerus Insertion - base of metacarpals (dorsal) Action - wrist extension

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Forearm Flexors Origins - medial epicondyle of the humerus Insertion - base of metacarpal (palmar) Action - wrist flexion

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Forearm Pronators Origin ◦ Teres: medial epicondyle ◦ Quadratus: distal anterior ulna Insertion ◦ Teres: Lateral mid shaft of radius ◦ Quadratus: distal anterior radius Action - Pronates forearm

Elbow - Forearm Muscular Anatomy Forearm Supinators Origin ◦ Lateral epicondyle of humerus ◦ supinator crest of ulna Insertion - Lateral proximal radial shaft Action - Supinates forearm
