VOCABULARY STEP 1: HAVE TO, DON’T HAVE TO, MUSTN’T Have to has the same purpose as (PAGES 94 -95) must and it means obligation, something that is mandatory. Have to is used to implement rules. (e. g. You have to finish the exam on time. = You are obliged to finish the exam on time) Don’t have to is a lack of obligation. We use don’t have to when we inform that something is not mandatory. (e. g. They don’t have to do their homework. = They can, but it is not obligatory. ) Mustn’t is used to restrict or forbid something from happening. (You mustn’t step on the grass = Stepping on the grass is forbidden. ) Answer exercises 1 -6.

Start by reading the text on page 98, then tick the correct answers in exercise 2 b. In exercise 3, we can see that adverbs are used to show something happens. We make adverbs by using adjectives and add the suffix –ly. (sudden>suddenly). Adjectives ending in y become adverbs by transforming y into I + ly (happy>happily) However, some adverbs keep the same format as the adjectives, or have their unique modifications (early>early; good>well) Write an email to your pen friend and describe some of the customs and traditions in your motherland.
