Unit 3 Outdoor and Environmental Studies { Australian Outdoor Environments Before Humans – Geological Stability
Are there any active volcanoes in Australia?
There are no ACTIVE volcanoes in Victoria…. There are no active volcanoes on the Australian mainland that have erupted since European settlement, however some volcanoes in Victoria and South Australia are likely to have been active and witnessed by Aboriginal people several thousand years ago.

Geological stability – The last volcanoes on the continent of Australia were active many years ago compared with other continents. This combined with very little geological activity has led to Australia having soils poor in nutrients and a mainly flat landscape vulnerable to floods and exposure. The state of the soils had an influence on the Australian flora and fauna. For example the soils on Phillip Island are sandy, very dry and lacking nutrients and the weathered penny top mountains of the Australian Alps demonstrate the characteristics of a very stable environment.
Plant and Animal Adaptations – Geological Stability Tea tree plants have a deep and far reaching root system to enable them to reach as many nutrients in the soil as possible.
Plant and Animal Adaptations – Geological Stability To obtain the nutrients that the pitcher plant needs to grow and survive, it has adopted movement to catch bugs and insects for their nutrients. https: //www. youtube. com/watch? v=Uo. L 1 dg 3 Sz. OI
