What is Technology • Technology is using knowledge to develop products and systems that satisfy needs, solve problems, and increase our capabilities. • Examples: Fire, Computers, Stone Tools, IPAD, Telephone, Solar Heating

What is Technology • Technology is anything used to satisfy needs and wants. • The means by which we try to improve our people-made world.

What makes people create technology? • All people have basic want and needs. These include: food, water, shelter, communications protection, recreation, transportation, and health care. • People have always had the same basic wants and needs, what changes is how we satisfy them.

Food • People have gone from growing food on farms to buying food in the store. • Now we do not even have to cook food.

Water • People have gone from using the river as a water source to city water or bottled water.

Technological Advances • Shelter: Outhouse / Indoor Plumbing • Communication: Pony Express / Cell Phone • Protection: Spear / Security Alarms • Recreation: Oral Story Telling / Movie Theater • Transportation: Horse & Buggy / Hybrid car • Health Care: Knife / Laser

What Else Does Technology Do • People need technology, but technology also needs people. • Technology has helped bring the global community closer together. • Examples: Telephone, Plane, Television, Internet
