Unit 2 Electricity Lesson 1: Dangers of electricity and How to deal with it.
Importance and uses of electricity • • 1. cook food ( in microwaves) 2. Light houses , schools and streets 3. Preserves food in refrigerators 4. provides machines( T. v , radio, ……) with electricity
Save Electricity
Materials can be classified according to their ability to conduct electricity into Electric conductors • They allow electric current to pass through it • Examples: iron, aluminium, copper and water. Electric insulators • They do not allow electric current to pass through it • Ex: Wood , Plastic and Rubber
If you did not deal with the electricity in a proper way Some injuries may happen Direct injuries • Types • Electric fire • Electric shock • Electric burn Indirect injuries • Caused by falling from a ladder due to electric shock
Direct injuries • Electric fire • Caused due to: • Putting more than one machine in one socket • Not disconnecting the electricity from a machine ( electric iron, heater) after use.
• Caused due to 2. Electric shock • Both hands touching 2 wires connecting to electricity • Apart of your body is connecting to electricity and the other part is connecting to a conducting material connected to the ground ( imagine yourself standing over a chair made of iron and touching a wire with your hand)
Electric burn • Caused due to • Your hands touches a fire or spark • Your hands touhes an electric machine that generates electricit ( electric iron)
Precautions in dealing with electricity • Do not touch any plugged electric machine with wet hand. • Do not insert many connections in one sockect • Do not insert any metal object in the socket
Water is not used to put out fire resulting from electricity…. ? • Answer: Water is a good conductor of electricity, so it increases fire • Sand is used instead of water to put out fire
