Unit 12 -μι Verbs Present System
-μι Verbs n -μι verbs are also known as athematic verbs n Called athematic because, unlike thematic -ω verbs, these verbs conjugate without thematic vowels in most places. n They are easily identified from their first principal part – δίδωμι, ἵστημι, τίθημι
-μι Verbs verbs primarily differ in their conjugation in the 1 st and 3 rd principal parts. This includes their participles. n -μι n The verbal attributes (i. e. tense, mood, voice) behave in the same manner as thematic verbs.
Present Ind. Act. -μι Verbs n Forms conjugated from the first principle part (present system) of -μι verbs have two vowel grade forms. n Recall vowel grades from 3 rd declension nouns like μητήρ. n -μι verbs have a short-vowel and a longvowel grade stem in the present.

Present Ind. Mid/Pass. -μι Verbs is formed using only the short-vowel grade stem of the present. n This – διδο-, τιθε-, ἱσταn Since -μι verbs use athematic endings, for the mid/pass they use the same endings as thematic verbs, just without thematic vowel.
Imperfect Ind. Act. -μι Verbs n This is formed using the augmented longvowel grade stem of the present stem for the singular. (***SOMETIMES***) – διδω-, τιθη-, ἱστη- n It is formed using the augmented shortvowel grade stem of the present stem for the plural. – διδο-, τιθε-, ἱστα-
Imperfect Ind. Mid/Pass. -μι Verbs n It is formed using the augmented shortvowel grade stem of the present stem. – διδο-, τιθε-, ἱστα- n Since -μι verbs use athematic endings, for the mid/pass they use the same endings as thematic verbs, just without thematic vowel.
Present Subj. Act. -μι Verbs n It is formed using the short-vowel grade stem of the present stem, mostly. – διδο-, τιθε-, ἱστε- n The regular subjunctive endings for the present stem are used and contracted with the short-vowel grade stem, mostly.
Present Subj. Mid/Pass. -μι Verbs n It is formed using the short-vowel grade stem of the present stem, mostly. – διδο-, τιθε-, ἱστε- n The regular subjunctive endings for the present stem are used and contracted with the short-vowel grade stem, mostly.
Present Opt. Act. -μι Verbs n It is formed using the short-vowel grade stem of the present stem. – διδο-, τιθε-, ἱστα- n Contract the stem with the ending. n Ending are nearly the same as the aor. opt. passive or alternate forms of the pres. opt. active of contract verbs. n Has alternate forms for the plural.

Present Imperative Mid/Pass. -μι Verbs n It is formed using the short-vowel grade stem of the present stem. – διδο-, τιθε-, ἱστα- n Same endings as thematic, only without thematic epsilon. n The intervocalic sigma returns in the second person singular.
