Introduction of communication The word ‘communication’ is derived from the latin word ‘communicare’ Which means ‘to make common, to share, to transmit or to impart’. Thus communication can be considered as process that involves the transfer of information, ideas, emotions, feelings etc. between people. ‘Business communication differs from other types of communication, not by its means of communicating but by its objectives’
Communication …. � Activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts. � A process by which information is exchanged between individuals through a common system of symbols The basic purpose of communication is to inform, educate and entertain people

7 C’s of communication
1. COMPLETENESS: Ø Letter should not lacks its purpose. Provide all necessary information. Ø E. g. Order should not only mention quantity but also size, price, packaging, delivery, transportation charges, discount rates, payment item and condition etc. . 2. CONCISENESS: Ø Be to the point, avoid unnecessary repetitions and include only relevant material. 3. CONSIDERATION: Ø Focus on “you” instead on “I” or “We”, Show reader benefits. Ø emphasize positive pleasant facts.
4. CONCRETENESS: Ø Use specific facts and figures Ø put action in verbs Ø choose image building words. 5. CLARITY: Ø Choose precise, concrete and familiar words. Ø Construct effective sentences and paragraphs. Ø Reader should understands the matter in first reading.
6. COURTESY: Ø Whether writing a complaint or a concern, be sincere, thoughtful, appreciative, courteous and respectful. Ø Offer to do whatever you can, within reason, to be accommodating and helpful. 7. CORRECTNESS: Ø Use right level of language. Ø Double check the facts, figures, dates, price, spelling and grammar. Ø Maintain acceptable writing mechanics.

Feedback � � Feedback is the response or reply which the receiver of a message gives back to the sender. Sometimes its possible to get feedback immediately. Feedback can be immediate as in the case of face to face communication.
