El subjuntivo • The subjunctive (el subjuntivo) is a mood in Spanish (not a tense). It is used to express desires, doubts, emotions, and uncertainties.
El subjuntivo • Tense vs Mood: • A tense tells you when an action takes place (I will write, I wrote). A mood tells you how the speaker feels about the situation.
El subjuntivo • Use the subjunctive to indicate that a situation is not actually happening, but something you want to happen, hope to happen, are uncertain about it happening, etc.

Ojalá que… • Ojalá que. . . means “Oh how I wish that. . . ” or “I hope that. . . ” • Ojalá que is a trigger for the subjunctive. • You form the subjunctive very similar to how you made formal commands.
