Direct Objects Definición A direct object tells who or what receives the action of the verb. Ejemplo Luisa compra la blusa. Luisa buys the blouse. You can find the direct object (D. O. ) by asking yourself this question: What does Luisa buy? Luisa buys the blouse.

Direct Object Pronouns • Pronouns replace the direct object nouns in a sentence. They must agree with the noun they replace! • They help to avoid repetition. • The direct object pronouns always come right before the verb.

Number/Gender Agreement Unlike English, direct object pronouns are usually placed before the conjugated verb in Spanish. I buy them. Yo los compro. In Spanish, a direct object pronoun must agree in number and gender with the noun it replaces. Quiero la camisa: La quiero Quiero los zapatos: Los quiero.
Infinitive of verbs When an infinitive follows the conjugated verb, the direct object pronoun can be placed before the conjugated verb OR be attached to the end of the infinitive. Quiero comprar los zapatos negros. (I want to buy black shoes) We replace zapatos with the direct object pronoun los. Los quiero comprar. (I want to buy them. ) or Quiero comprarlos. (I want to buy them)
Negative sentences with D. O. P. • If the direct object pronoun comes before the conjugated verb, add no before the pronoun to make the sentence negative: No la quiero comprar. • If the direct object pronoun it attached to an infinitive, add no before the conjugated verb to make the sentence negative: No quiero comprarla.
