Each degree module is delivered over 1 and a half weekends - a 30 hour module + 12 hours of non contact assignments etc Needed: Graduates who are willing to use their practical knowledge to build up and deliver a course with a mixture of relevant: • • • Case studies Video clips Articles Group work activities Independent activities Pair work activities Role plays etc The majority of our students are past Educ. • What would you volunteering look like? – Prepare a manual for one of the remaining modules. (N. b. in theory, we are only doing years 1, 2 and 3 this year but if you had a Year 4 module you wanted to offer, we could swap. ) for the delivery of a 30 hour module + 12 hours non contact assignments / pre-reading etc. – Come to Sierra Leone for 10 days plus to deliver 30 hours of contact time, usually arranged as: • Fri 5 – 9 pm • Sat 9 – 9 • Sun 9 – 3 pm • Fri 5 – 9 pm • Sat 9 – 3 (a different module will then take over. ) – Design and set a 3 hour assessment to be done in the last 3 contact hours (see the next button for guidance on writing the assessment – Submit grades: 30% for attendance / assignments / participation + 70% final assessment exam
• What else would you need to bear in mind? – A visa – you can apply online and will get a letter of invitation from us – only apply for a tourist visa though – Depending on when you book, flights vary from approx £ 450 - £ 750. There are 3 main airlines that fly to SL: Air Maroc, SN Brussels, KLM (we will probably collect you from the airport and take you directly to Port Loko) – Take advice from your travel nurse but you will likely need: • A Yellow fever certificate • Anti-malaria tablets • N. b. I would advise against the rabies jab as it is a. painful and b. expensive and c. only guarantee for an additional 2 days before you need treating…. You can of course consider the evidence and take an alternative view – Don’t forget travel insurance – it needs to be insurance that gets you out of the country if the need arises – Contact Erin@educaid. org. uk about getting a £ 10 DBS check required for all adults working with children or vulnerable adults. – Contact Erin@educaid. org. uk to ensure you are compliant with all of the necessary volunteering processes for your safety and the peace of mind of all of us
• While the Sierra Leonean food is great and you will have access to that whenever you are on one of the school sites, you may find that you would like some variety. Many people bring cuppa soups and noodles as well as cereal bars and such like. This is not obligatory but may prove helpful if you want a bit of variety or something more familiar at times.
What could you do between (or before/after) the two weekends? 1. Support BAM students? 2. Go to the beach? 3. Help out at one of the schools?
