Junior Professional Officers Former Associate Experts programme • P 1/P 2 extra-budgetary posts • Donor governments, for their nationals (exceptionally: nationals developing countries) • Graduates or junior professionals, <32 years old • Duration: 1 – 4 years. Standard : 2 years New! Cost-sharing extension for the 3 rd or 4 rth year; UNESCO pays 3, 6 or 12 months. Donors: China, Japan, Korea, Germany, Italy, Finland, France, Switzerland, Sweden, Azerbaijan. New: Qatar, Saudi Arabia Current number of JPOs: 13 JPO from 7 countries as at November 2016
Loans & Secondments (1/2) For specific and temporary need of UNESCO • Partner institution deploys staff and funds the assignment • Public and private partners • Potential Mo. U for a general framework + Loan/Secondment Agreement • Post employment restriction: 6 months • Focal point: HRM Currently: around 40 Loans and Secondments: Angola, Basque Volunteers, Belgium, China, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malta, Namibia, Norway, Qatar, Russian Federation, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey. Since 2011: 118 loans and secondments at UNESCO

Stand-by Agreement For crisis/transition situations • Partner deploys experts at the request of UNESCO, and funds their assignments • Roster with preselected experts, available at short notice • Duration: max. 18 months Current partners: NORCAP (Norwegian Refugee Council) CANADEM
Sponsored Traineeship (1/3) • Students, researchers and young professionals, >20 years. old • Sponsoring partner: public or private institution Mainly academic, governmental and regional institutions • Duration: 6 months, max 12 months • Attention! ≠ from internship criteria • Focal point: HRM/Partnerships Sponsors: Carlo Schmidt, China Scholarship Council, PENN University, Erasmus +, Gujarat Law University, Quebec. . . Trainees: 57 Trainees in 2016.

Sponsored Traineeship (3/3) How to contract a traineeship? Ad hoc partnership: Agreement Long term partnership: Framework Agreement at § Organization level, or § Sector/Bureau/… level > Bilateral agreement between UNESCO & sponsoring institution; Additional Traineeship Contract between UNESCO and each trainee. Traineeship OR > Tripartite agreement between UNESCO, sponsoring institution & trainee.
UNESCO Volunteer (1/2) • Individuals with expertise, know-how, experience • No compensation • Online or on-site • Duration: 2 weeks – 6 months Former UNESCO employee: <3 months within 12 months New! HQ: number volunteers <10% fixed terms within a Sector/Bureau Field: Director determines the reasonable number UNESCO Volunteers: 188 since January 2013
